Breakdown Cover

Whenever, wherever, and whatever you drive your vehicle could have some kind of failure and breakdown in the middle of nowhere. If you have this form of insurance on your car and you are stranded at the spot where the breakdown took place then you are entitled to assistance. The compensation may cover any mechanical work needed at the scene or in some cases the towing of your vehicle to a place where a proper assessment can be made of the damage.

Not every insurance policy includes breakdown cover and some may only offer it as an added benefit (and of course an added premium cost) if your breakdown cover includes European breakdown cover then it is worth having but check that out. In some cases you may be offered breakdown cover from the dealers where you purchase your car, but if you already have auto insurance then you should check whether that includes breakdown cover or you could be paying for it twice.

If you do a lot of continental driving, whether for business or pleasure, then you should have European breakdown cover. Being stranded in a deserted spot on your home ground is bad enough, just imagine what it might feel like to be stranded off the beaten track atop a Spanish mountain road. The only way to avoid this is to make sure that you have European breakdown cover in addition to your ordinary breakdown cover. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your breakdown cover, will compensate you for any other accident that may occur, whether it is on European soil or on your home ground because you will be sorely disappointed.
