Auto Green Card Insurance
More Americans are choosing to take European vacations and hire a car when they get there. When you drive in a foreign country you should get yourself Green Card insurance, you can, if you like get it when you arrive in Europe, though it’s probably cheaper to buy before you leave. Makes sure that you know exactly what you are covered for when you are driving through Europe.
If you plan on visiting a number of different countries then tell your insurer as not all European countries operate in exactly the same way when it comes to insurance cover, You should be given a list of countries where you are covered, if you want to drive anywhere else, through Eastern Europe perhaps, then you will need to buy extra add-on protection – at least that way you won’t have to worry if one of the countries you visit is not on the dedicated list, you will still be covered.
You have to buy add ones before you can enter a non-listed country. You can do this at one or other of the European Consulates but check with your insurance provider before you go.
Not all insurance companies will provide you with a Green Card or International Insurance, so you may have to shop around for a bit to find one that does. There is nothing to stop you from getting your Green Card once you enter Europe, but you may find that is less expensive if you get it at home before you go. It is always wise, when traveling abroad, to be prepared for all eventualities. Most of the time vacations go without a hitch but there is always the exception and a Green Card will take care of those exceptions so that you can enjoy your vacation.
